Nevin Hersch


Nevin Hersch is a DJ, composer, producer and sound designer residing in Chicago. He has traveled the world recording the sounds of nature, utilizing those field recordings as backdrops and inspiration for his music. With a heart grounded in nature, Nevin’s music and DJ style spans a variety of genres and cultures. His long-term goal is helping others heal through sound, music, meditation, mindfulness and breathing techniques. He’s currently writing multiple albums that focus on these and other methods, and is developing a sound/music therapy practice. His goal is to promote inclusivity and the all planet’s species through mindfulness, classical yoga, meditation and various healing techniques like sound therapy.

Starting classical piano training at the age of 4, Nevin began composing for piano and synthesizer at 8. He studied at Columbia College Chicago where he received a BA in Sound for Film. Having worked at studios for TV and radio commercials as well as dance music production, he’s become adept at recording, producing, engineering, mixing and mastering various styes of music and sound design. He has produced music and sound design for national TV and radio commercials including The Oprah Winfrey Show, and recorded artists including Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child). His music has been licensed to several independent films, and he’s composed for contemporary dance performances performed worldwide.

Nevin has been a professional club DJ for over 13 years, holding residency at the legendary Berlin Nightclub in Chicago for nearly a decade. His other residencies include Hydrate Chicago (every other Thursday) and Jai Ho Bollywood dance parties in Chicago. He’s also resided at Splash, The Sofo Tap, Jackhammer & The Glenwood. His style of DJing pulls from a wide range of genres, and has DJed and performed at venues, festivals, galas, and a wedding featured on Real Housewives of New Jersey. He was interviewed by Richard Roeper on WGN radio for his album release Island Study I, which was his first utilizing the sounds of nature. He’s currently working on multiple albums including Las Américas, which features his field recordings captured in North, South & Central America, and was partially funded by the Chicago’s DCASE Grant.

Nevin’s upcoming album ‘Soundscapes in Pandemia’ features his long-term field recordings bathed in analog synths to create a cinematic ambient orchestra. For more details see ‘Upcoming Sounds.’
